Request a Conference
Submit the form to request your Scoutmaster Conference. Please allow 3–5 days for a response.
Open Google FormBefore the Conference
- •If you have not already done so, please enter your 3 Acts of Leadership in the Acts of Leadership Form. These “Acts” include things such as: leading an outing, giving a presentation at a Troop meeting, leading an activity or game at a Troop meeting, or being SPL for a Court of Honor. Serving in a leadership position does NOT count as an Act of Leadership. Note: Must have been performed while a Star Scout.
- •Confirm that you have completed your Leadership Tracker for the leadership position you are counting for rank advancement. Be prepared to talk about those leadership acts and the leadership position(s) you held while a Star Scout.
- •Make sure that your service hours are logged in your scout handbook. Be prepared to talk about your service project hours.
- •Requirement #6 — EDGE Method: To complete this requirement, you must bring the younger scout to me and show me that they have learned the skills you taught them. I strongly recommend you do this 1 week after teaching them the skills rather than waiting until your Life Conference.
Bring to the Conference
- •Wear FULL uniform: Scout shirt w/ patches, Scout pants/shorts, Scout socks, neckerchief, and closed-toe shoes. T30 vest not required.
- •Your scout handbook
- •A parent or other adult to stay with you the whole time
During the Conference
- •Acts of Leadership — Discuss your 3 “Acts of Leadership”
- •Scout Spirit — Discuss 4–6 points of Scout Spirit you have shown (from the Law, Oath, Slogan, Motto, Outdoor Code)
- •Merit Badges — What was fun, what was hard, etc.
- •Service Project Hours — Discuss your completed service hours
- •Leadership position — What went well, possible improvements
- •General discussion — What are you liking, not liking about Scouts? Ideas for improvement.
- •Eagle Project — Any ideas yet? Need to find a project that allows leadership. Discuss with your Eagle Project Advisor. Make a preliminary plan in your Eagle Project Workbook. Project needs to be approved by the parent committee and district advancement person before work starts.
Acts of Leadership for Life
At Life rank we expect more substantial Acts than at Star:
- •We expect the complexity to increase to at least giving a presentation
- •We strongly encourage at least 2 Acts to be outside troop meetings, such as campouts
- •Simple games at troop meetings should be the minority, if any
Remember: Acts completed for Star do NOT carry over to Life. You must complete 3 new Acts after earning Star rank.
